Spring Tea
May 21, 2023
The Kansas City Rose Society kicked off its 92nd season as the stewards of Loose Park’s Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden at their annual Spring Tea. Members enjoyed seasonal appetizers and cocktails at Lidia’s Kansas City. The event raised funds for the maintenance and preservation of the beloved landmark with a raffle, in which the grand prize was an original oil painting donated by artist Wes Benson.

Groomer Training
May 18, 2023

The 2023 Garden Groomer Training Season welcomed 10 newbies and many o four over 65 weekly volunteers returning from previous years. Happily, the Rosebuds were back for their third year, with some wonderful new faces!

Rose Garden Readings
May 13, 2023

Featured writers for the first in the 2023 Rose Garden Reading series included:
  • Lisa Stewart, author of a horseback memoir, The Big Quiet - winner of the Thorpe Menn Award for literary excellence.

  • Meghan Craig, author of Writing is Gross, A Workbook for Children, and other children's books.

  • Children who won the 2023 Rose Garden Contest, will recite their poems. Congratulations to this year's winners!

Thank you to all who attended and to Julie Spaeth, children's event chairman for organizing this year's children's poetry contest which received the most entries ever for this annual contest.
