Thank you to Taylor Smith, 90th Anniversary Chair, and all those who assisted in making our 90th Anniversary Celebration a huge success. Over 100 members, spouses and friends attended the event held at Kansas City's Starlight Theatre. Guests enjoyed individually crafted meals from Lon Lane's Inspired Occasions and a live concert from the Kansas City Symphony's Quintet Giocoso.
Highlights included recognition of Shirley Helzberg, Honorary Chair of Wine and Roses. Judy Penner, Consulting Rosarian, and Loose Park Director, received special recognition for her many years of service and guidance. Those recognized received a commemorative coffee table book authored by Kathy Killip, created especially for our anniversary year. Groomer training was very well attended this year with 56 groomers, including 15 newcomers meeting in the garden. Leading the training was Garden Chair Lauren English and Judy Penner, Consulting Rosarian and Loose Park Director.
Judy discussed pruning the different varieties in the garden while Lauren shared information needed for Tuesday and Thursday grooming during the season. Thank you groomers for caring for the Rose Garden! The Consulting Rosarian program is administered by the American Rose Society to provide experts in rose care to local rose societies. There are now 6 CRs in Kansas City to support rose gardening information and education for our community. Want to be a Consulting Rosarian?
